"Flying" ist Fabian Mangs Solo Klavier-Programm und zugleich das 2023 erschienene Debüt-Solo-Album.
8 Eigenkompositionen und 2 Jazzstandards sind darauf zu finden – sehr persönliche, lyrisch-melancholische Melodien, die der Pianist in den letzten Jahren mit sich herumträgt und die ihn nicht loslassen.
Im Studio hat er einfach drauflosgespielt, improvisiert, geschaut, was passiert – und dann innerhalb eines einzigen Recording-Tages neun von zehn First Takes ausgewählt.
Herausgekommen ist dabei ein authentisches Album, das vom Jazz weg sicher öfters die Grenzen zu Pop oder Ambient überschreitet und seine eigenen Geschichten erzählt.
Durchweht von einer leichten bis mittelschweren Melancholie sind die Songs oft wenig mehr als skizziert – dabei abwechslungsreich und voller Emotion.

This is not music that seeks to have many tones or spread. Mang is one with himself, with his rhythm and the harmonious flow of his thoughts. Own songs and standards like ‘Alone Together’ or ‘I Fall In Love Too Easily’ get the same treatment as a matter of course. How often do you hear pianists failing in the standard repertoire because they squander their ambition on what is ultimately valid instead of attempting what is valid for them.Others, like Fabian Mang, try it with a personally colored variation of what they have learned – effortless and original.
